VMA’s 2017 Recap: The Good, The Bad and The Awkward

VMA’s 2017 Recap: The Good, The Bad and The Awkward

Last night, MTV held their annual Video Music Awards ceremony. Nominees included Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, Khalid, Ed Sheeran and Big Sean while Katy Perry served as the night’s master of ceremony. As expected, there were plenty of memorable moments that range from good to just plain awkward. Here’s our recap of the event, in case you missed it.

The big winner and our favorite performance: Kendrick Lamar

Cali’s Hip-Hop Hero, Kendrick Lamar, took home six awards, including Music Video of the Year for the anthem “Humble”. In addition to being the nights big winner, Kung Fu Kenny opened the awards show with an electrifying medley performance of “DNA” and “HUMBLE” that was lit…literally!

Khalid and Cardi B: Super hot yet reduced to pre-show acts?

Cardi B is without a doubt on fire at the moment as her single “Bodak Yellow” continues to climb up the Hip Hop charts. Singer Khalid, who took home the fan-voted award for Best New Artist, is also currently on an incline thanks to his hit single “Location”. Both artists performed during the awards pre-show but we cant help to think that their presence would have served best on the larger stage. Cardi B did manage to present an award and delivered an epic shout out. “Colin Kaepernick, as long as you kneel with us, we gonna be standing for you, baby. That’s right, I said it.”. Before taking home the Best New Artist award, Khalid made an appearance during Logic’s powerful performance of “1-800-273-8255”, which brought the room to tears.

Remy Ma, what’s good?

While hosting behind the scenes with Terrence J, Remy Ma took the opportunity to, once again, send a shot to her nemesis Nicki Minaj. The diss “Nicki, what’s good?” however, was delivered with not a single ounce of confidence. Awkward.

Woke Moment of the Evening: Paris Jackson

Michael Jackson is surely looking down from heaven and smiling at his daughter, Paris Jackson. Sis took to the stage, barefoot and all, and denounced White Supremacy while mocking our current Commander-in-Chief by stating “that’s not fake news”. It was clear that Paris’ message was completely off script.

Katy Perry falls flat

If you ever doubted that hosting an award ceremony is a hard task, look no further than Katy Perry’s hosting at the 2017 VMA’s. Comedic timing is a gift that the “Firework” singer simply does not possess. Many of her jokes fell extremely flat which caused the audience to have the look of complete boredom and confusion throughout the evening. Ellen Degeneres’ reactions through out the show was literally all of us at home watching Katy bomb last night.

Gucci Mane featuring Keyshia Ka’ior and Fifth Harmony

The four member girl group that sings three-part harmonies also known as Fifth Harmony performed a medley of their hits “Down” and “Angel” with Gucci Mane. The highlight of that performance wasn’t the shade they attempted to throw at ex-member Camilla Cabelo, rather than the moment when Gucci Mane made his entrance with his soon-to-be wife Keyshia Ka’ior twerking right by his side. #RelationshipGoals

These moments were no doubt the good, the bad and the awkward of VMA night. If there were any moments that you loved that we missed, feel free to hit us up on social media and let us know!
