The Hiplet Ballerinas and Ebonee Davis Star in Nordstrom’s Fall Campaign

Nordstrom’s fall 2017 campaign celebrates having a voice. Models and creatives star in the retailer’s high-fashion visuals for print, digital, social, stores and video. And its cast, diverse in fields and mediums, is full of individuals who use their unique talents to enter larger conversations afoot.

Take Homer Hans Bryant, for instance. As the founder of the Chicago Multi-Cultural Dance Center, he also acts as its artistic director. The Hiplet, a group of dancers who perform an en pointe collision between hip hop and classical styles like ballet, was a concept that derived from his mind. Bryant gathered some of the most advanced ballerinas in his company to create the quartet: Camryn Taylor, Lourdes Taylor, Nia Parker and Nia Lyons. And these dancers have gone viral—from YouTube to national media recognition. Bryant not only models in Nordstrom’s campaign but The Hiplet joins him as well.

And there’s Ebonee Davis who’s a pro at this campaign thing. The model has tapped numerous other fashion and beauty castings such as Gap, MAC Cosmetics, Calvin Klein, Adidas and Yeezy. Her journey towards model stardom has gone hand-in-hand with her activism. Davis champions for inclusivity within fashion. Her determination for a more well-rounded industry representing all sizes, shapes, colors, hair types and genders landed her a TED Talk of her own.

Their castmates include: the host of VICELAND’s State of Undress, Hailey Gates; Vejas Kruszewski and Saam Emme of fashion label Vejas; art curator Angela Goding; model-artist Jane Moseley; Creative Growth Art Center director Tom di Maria; artist-designer Elizabeth Rangel; artist brothers Marc and Ian Hundley; and model Hayett McCarthy. Though the aforementioned are multifaceted in their own ways, Nordstrom’s showcase by photographer Max Farago and director Clara Cullen adhered to simplicity. A lower-maintenance production was meant to capture more of a realistic and relatable approach to fashion ads. “The campaign features intimate and honest portraits of models and non-models alike, minimally edited and styled how people really dress to depict a modern and relevant perspective on a high-fashion campaign,” the retailer said.

The cast models apparel, accessories and shoes from a mix of brands carried by Nordstrom. These consist of: 3.1 Phillip Lim, Acne, JW Anderson, Simone Rocha, Studios Adidas, Lemaire, Sophie Buhai, Alexander Wang, A.P.C., Levi’s, Tibi, Dr. Martens, Molly Goddard, Tomorrowland, FRAME, Norse Project, Topman, Isa Arfen, Officine Generale, Vans, J.Crew, Ovadia & Sons, Vejas, Richard Malone and SATURDAYS NYC.
