Russell Simmons, Mya, Waka Flocka Discuss Why They Went Vegan

With reasons ranging from a healthier lifestyle to the cruelty to animals aspect, Waka Flocka, Mya and Russell Simmons sat down with PETA for a roundtable discussion over a table of veggies and wine at Los Angeles vegan restaurant Crossroads to talk about why they became vegans.

“I was fat as fuck. Like big,” Waka reveals. “Mothafuckas would ask like ‘Yo do you play in the NFL?'” Added to that, the Atlanta rapper says that he gained 45 pounds in a month after grubbing down on steaks and shrimp.

Simmons, who has been vegan for almost 20 years, says that he became vegan because of “the hundred billion animals” being slaughtered, along with the damage done to the planet.

“The planet won’t be here anyway, if we keep this shit up,” Russell says.

Mya says that she switched to vegan “once I opened my eyes and was seeking knowledge, that’s when I received all the information, which led me to stick to it. So now it’s a lifetime commitment, because now I can’t turn back.”
