#16Shots Three Officers Charged in Laquan McDonald Case in Chicago

Some heavy news is coming out of Chicago in regards to the Laquan McDonald case.

Three cops have been charged with conspiracy in covering up the murder of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, NBC News reports. In official reports, the cops falsely alleged that McDonald had assaulted officers on the scene and that the actions of the murderer, Jason Van Dyke, were justified. In November of 2015, the Chicago police department released video footage, that had been kept hidden from the public for over a year,  that contradicts the officer’s claims and exposed the city’s efforts to cover-up the killing which led to murder charges being filed against Van Dyke.

The release of the video recording and its attempted cover-up sparked national outrage and worldwide protest. As a result, the Chicago police department was the subject of a probe by the U.S. Department of Justice that ended with a report that confirmed years of systemic civil rights violations by the CPD. Currently, Van Dyke is waiting to go to trial.

The point of it all is that these three cops lied about what happened on the night Laquan McDonald was murdered and they did everything in their power to protect themselves in the process. Let’s hope that we are able to see some sort of justice in this case.
