Birdman Says He’s Dropping 500 Unreleased Cash Money Songs This Year

Years before Birdman signed the infamous $30-million distribution deal with Universal Records back in 1998, Cash Money Records was already a staple down South. From regional superstars Magnolia Shorty, Pimp Daddy and Hot Boys predecessor group U.N.L.V., CMR was essentially a bounce label until B.G., Lil Wayne, Juvenile and Turk came along.

Creating a hybrid sound that bridged bounce-laden chants and production with traditional rap lyrics and delivery, the label boasted more than 200,000 units sold of indie albums from B.G., Juvenile and duo Big Tymers, consisting of Baby (AKA Birdman) and Mannie Fresh. Since, CMR has been a haven for hit music from the likes of multi-platinum superstars Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and the label’s latest hot boy Young Thug.

For those CMR fans who have been down from day one and long for the days of Mannie on the drums, Birdman took to Instagram to announce on Wednesday (Feb. 1) his plans to drop 500 unreleased, old CMR songs this year. Baby captioned the picture, “Wen in my VAULT today found thousands of OLD CASHMONEY MUSIC will release 500 songs this Year #CASHMONEY COLLECTION.”
