Black-ish’s Yara Shahidi Commits to Harvard

Black-ish star Yara Shahidi is rapidly becoming the true definition of Black Girl Magic.

The Iranian African-American actress and activist is known for her generosity towards the community and uplifting the generation of young women following in her footsteps, but with her committing to Harvard University, she is sure to make an even bigger impact than anticipated.

On Tuesday (Jun 6), the young model announced via Instagram that she will be attending Harvard University, alongside Malia Obama in 2018. The announcement coupled with a notorious James Baldwin quote read, “The paradox of education is precisely this – that as one begins to become conscious one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated.”

Shahidi is following in Obama’s footsteps and taking a year off from school before she begins at Harvard in 2018, where she plans to double major in African American Studies and Sociology. The hard working actress also revealed that she was accepted into every university she applied to,  although some of the credit for those accomplishments is to Michele Obama, who wrote a letter of recommendation for the young star.

Yara maybe taking a year off, but she’s definitely going to be working. After having an active role on the hit ABC show, Black-ish, for three seasons, Shahidi will be starring in a spin-off of the ABC show College-ish set to premiere on Freeform in 2018.

Shahidi also started her own club called Yara’s Club, for young girls to help address and overcome racial and social obstacles they may face. She is the epitome of Black Girl Excellence!
