Cardi B Graces the Cover of ‘Fader,’ Talks Success, Offset, and More

Detailing her rise from booty-shaking stripper to social media starlet to reality TV vixen and BET Award-nominated, Atlantic Records-signed rapper, Cardi B graced the cover of Fader for their Summer Music issue.

“When I was a stripper, I used to strip like six nights a week,” she told Fader. “I used to bust my ass. And I didn’t stop [working]. Until today I work just as hard as I did before.”

The 24-year-old Bronx, NY native said that she turned her thousands of Instagram followers into more than seven million worldwide. Speaking directly to the ladies in funny but bold videos, she put fans up on game about getting money out of trifling men and getting money. Her strong online presence afforded her enough club hosting gigs to leave the shake joints altogether.

With expectations of a lucrative music career on the horizon and two mixtapes under her belt, Cardi said that she has chosen to leave VH1’s Love & Hip Hop and does not plan to return to reality TV. She also said that her on-again, off-again relationship with Offset has been motivation for her career.

“It’s been a blessing, me meeting him and meeting his friends. I see how hard they work. And that motivated me to work even harder,” she says. “And I see how good things are going for them and how popping it is to be number one. And I’m like, I want that. A lot of people just see they jewelry and they money, but I don’t think a lot of people see how hard they work for that shit every single day.”
