Common Upholds Snoop Dogg’s Freedom of Expression for “Lavender” Video

Snoop Dogg has been causing quite a stir with the recent release of his newest video “Lavender,” in which he assassinates a Donald Trump clown doppelgänger with a gun that only shoots the word “bang.” Everybody from Ice-T, T.I. and Bow Wow to Florida Senator Marco Rubio and even the Don himself have all shared their opinion. And now Common is the latest to shed some insight on the matter.

TMZ caught up with the Chicago rapper as he was leaving the gym in Los Angeles.

“Hip-Hop’s always been about freedom of expression. That’s one of the most powerful things,” he explains.

Common then gives a brief history lesson on hip-hop. “If you think about the days of Public Enemy and you fast forward to Kendrick Lamar, hip-hop artists have always been speaking up and saying what they feel.

He continues, “If it’s a president they don’t like, if it’s politician they don’t like… I was just listening to KRS [One], and he was talking about Clarence Thomas back then. If you didn’t like what was going on, you speak up. We’re entitled to do that as people.”

The commotion between the Doggfather and Trump began after the Doggfather released his new video “Lavender.” In the video, he mock assassinates a clown-themed President Donald Trump doppelgänger.

Shortly after, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen and even Mr. President had a thing or two to say about Snoop Dogg’s mock assassination of President Donald Trump doppelgänger.

Common wasn’t the only entertainer to have Snoop’s back. Bow Wow, T.I and Ice-T have expressed their support.
