Floyd Mayweather Jr. Set to Fight Conor McGregor in August

It’s finally official! Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. is set to go toe to toe with UFC superstar Conor McGregor in Las Vegas on Aug. 26.

The now-40-year-old Money Man took to Instagram to break the news today (June 14) to announce that he’s coming out of a 23-month retirement for the boxing match.

According to reports, the match will be in junior middleweight weight limit of 154 pounds. They will use 10-ounce gloves and it all goes down at the T-Mobile Arena. The fight will be shown on Showtime Pay Per View.

“We’ve been in negotiations for a while,” UFC president Dana White said while appearing on SportsCenter. “Negotiations went smooth. Floyd is surrounded by some smart people, and we got this thing done. The impossible deal is now done.”

Just after Mayweather’s announcement of the fight, McGregor began taunting the five-division world boxing champion with a picture on Twitter with the caption “THE FIGHT IS ON” over a pic of himself next to picture of Floyd Mayweather Sr. instead of Mayweather Jr.

White followed Mayweather’s announcement with a tweet of a happy face emoji.

Undefeated as a professional fighter and winning 15 world titles in four different weight classes, Mayweather is considered to be one of the greatest boxers of all time.

McGregor is an Irish boxer and professional mixed martial artist currently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion, and former UFC Featherweight Champion.
