The news of the passing of Prodigy fell on many fans and friends like a ton of bricks. The rapper, who was one half of the iconic New York hip-hop duo Mobb Deep, died today (June 20) at the age of 42. Hospitalized a few days ago in Las Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis, the news of his passing swept through hip-hop circles like a typhoon.
Prodigy was unquestionably one of the illest MCs to breathe on a microphone, and many of hip-hop’s most respected representatives took to social media to mourn the loss and pay their respects.
