Comedian James Davis Bridges the Gap Between Urban and Mainstream Comedy With ‘Hood Adjacent’

Comedian James Davis is bringing his own flair of comedy with a new series set to premiere on Comedy Central.

Hood Adjacent is the new series that follows Davis on his journey as he “shares his perspective on the world he grew up in and the world he grew up next to.”

Comedy Central gave the green light to Davis to tell his story through his unique brand of comedy. Davis who’s made appearances in a variety of comedic shows including The Real Husbands of Hollywood, Chelsea Lately, and Wildn’ Out, has always written for the BET Awards, the BET Hip Hop Awards and the Late Late Show with James Corden.

James’ parody Baracka Flacka Flames – Head of the State was named the #2 viral video of 2010 by AOL and has over 11 million views on the web leading to notoriety from the New York Times. James’ monthly stand-up show Urban Dictionary at the Nerdmelt Showroom in Los Angeles was featured at the 2015 New York Comedy Festival and later inspired the series called Swagasaurus which lived on Comedy Central’s Snapchat Channel.

The premiere episode follows James as he explores the Hood, what defines “Hood,” and why it’s only glamorized or villainized by the media. He takes us on a journey to the Hood with his friend Stevie J to earn his Hood Pass and introduces us to a Trap Kitchen.

Hood Adjacent premieres on Comedy Central June 28th at 9pm.
