Jay-Z’s ‘4:44’ Might Have Been Named After Hotel Where He Had Elevator Incident with Solange

Jay-Z

The title behind Jay-Z’s recently released album ,’4:44′ still remains mysterious. The Brooklyn rapper previously explained the album title by stating that it was the time he woke up in the morning to write the title track. A fan has took to Twitter to unveil that there might be a double meaning behind the album’s title.

Today (07/26), a Twitter user by the name of Stephen Ossola posted a photo from The Standard Hotel in New York City. The hotel is where Solange and Jay-Z had their incident in the elevator. The photo posted by Ossola shows the numbers “444.” The numbers 444 are part of the secondary address for the Boom Boom Room, which is a nightclub located at the top of the venue. According to Hip-hop site, djbooth.net, after 4 p.m., the address for the Boom Boom Room becomes 444 West 13th. This becomes the secondary entrance for the hotel.

Jay-Z released footnotes for ‘4:44’ that share the stories behind each track on the album. This included explaining the meaning behind 4:44.

“‘4:44′ is a song that I wrote, and it’s the crux of the album, just right in the middle of the album.” Jay-Z writes. And I woke up, literally, at 4:44 in the morning, 4:44 AM, to write this song. So it became the title of the album and everything. It’s the title track because it’s such a powerful song, and I just believe one of the best songs I’ve ever written.”
