Kevin Gates may be returning to the free world later this month, XXL reports.
The Baton Rouge, La. rapper is currently serving a 180-day sentence in Polk County Jail for battery after kicking a female fan named Miranda Dixon during his concert at Rumors Nightclub in Lakeland, Fla. back in 2014 after she tugged at his shorts. He will reportedly be released on March 24.
The judge also hit Mr. “I Don’t Get Tired” with a year of probation which seems even stiffer since the prosecution was only seeking 60-days for the rapper who turned down a plea deal.
WFLA/Channel 8 News reported, “In a previous hearing Gates attempted to have the charges dropped using the Stand Your Ground defense. He admitted he kicked a female fan after she reached out and grabbed his pants several times at Rumor’s Nite Club in Lakeland. Gates testified, ‘I kicked them, I wanted them off me,’ he said, adding that after the girl grabbed him so many times, he kicked her in self-defense.’”
Kevin Gates was immediately taken into custody after the sentencing. The incident was caught on tape. Check out the footage of the attack and Gates’ sentencing below:
After sentencing, Kevin’s wife Dreka Gates expressed her feelings on the sentencing and questions the victim Miranda Dixon’s motives. She stated in Instagram:
“You mean to tell me that @iamkevingates kicked the girl in the red jumpsuit and knocked the breathe out her? Because that’s what she’s been claiming and testified today in court. If anything her friend choked the fuck out of her. She claims she fainted, but yet she and her friend stayed at the club at the front of the stage even after this incident. She also acquired a civil attorney early on…what does that tell you?
“She also touched him FIRST (more than once) without his consent but yet he was the one sentenced to jail today for the same crime. She and her friend also had very conflicting stories and were tripped up in many lies today in the courtroom. It was comical and sad at the same time to see how desperate people are for fame and money.
“Not to mention the prosecutors wanted to give him 60 days with anger management and community service but yet the judge decided to give him 180 days?!? Are you fucking kidding me.
