Lil Wayne Pays Homage to New Orleans Musical Legacy in New Video [Watch Now]

From the second line jazz bands and chants of the Mardi Gras Indians to the funk of the Meters band to bounce and hip-hop, New Orleans has a musical legacy like no other city on the planet with a mythical mix of African rhythms, French instruments, jazz and the blues. Lil Wayne pays homage to his many influences from local music in a minute-long video produced by The Fader and Beats by Dre entitled Lil Wayne Love Letter To New Orleans.

Beginning with Tunechi as a teen in his native Hollygrove community, the video skips between various time frames and cultures in the Big Easy with clips of his career with Cash Money, jazz musicians, block parties, brass bands and Mardi Gras Indians.

Wayne explains his gratitude to local musicians who cam before him and why he feels as if he is also among the city’s great musicians. This past weekend, Wayne reunited onstage with Juvenile, Turk and Mannie Fresh to perform at a Beats by Dre show during the NBA All Star weekend in the Crescent City.
