After describing Kevin Hart’s purchase of a $150,000 watch with his first big paycheck from acting as being “not… African-American rich” at the Justin Bieber’s 2015 roast, Martha Stewart has been dancing around the use of the n-word ever since.
“I forget that term for that,” she said. “It’s not… African-American rich…it’ll come to me.”
Well, it must have taken her another two years to recall the term, as the queen of cuisine recently recounted Snoop’s description of an unfortunate situation on the set of Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party when she leaned over to Lil Yachty and asked the Atlanta rapper, “Does it upset you when Snoop says ‘nigga shit?’”
While the cameras were not rolling during the slight slip of the tongue, a reporter from The Fader was in the building in full Clark Kent mode interviewing Boat for a cover story. So Martha, Snoop, Yachty, Laverne Cox and comedian Gary Owen are all on the set for an episode slated to premiere in October. The topic of Yachty’s Teenage Emotions album cover came up. But instead of showing the cover, they were informed that the “image was not available” because the network had failed to clear it.
That’s when Snoop erupted and delivered a “a very loud, swear-filled finger wag” at the staff for not getting the image cleared. During his rant, Snoop referred to Teenage Emotions as “this nigga’s shit.” Stewart then repeated part of Snoop’s remarks to Boat, “Yachty, does it upset you when Snoop says ‘nigga shit?’”
“The room filled with every imaginable reaction: anger, horror, embarrassment, laughter, joy, pain,” Rembert Browne writes. “Throughout the exchange, Martha Stewart did not seem to understand what the big deal was. Yachty’s reaction: a huge smile.”
