Nas Slapped with Nearly $300,000 Tax Lien

It seems that Nas just cannot win for losing when it comes to the IRS. Earlier this year, he shelled out more than $3.5 million in back taxes from 2007 and 2008. And now, according to Bossip, the rap veteran has been issued a lien  from the California’s Tax Franchise Board equaling $294,057 in unpaid taxes from 2014 and 2015.

If he doesn’t cough up the dough, the state of California has the right to seize his properties. According to the site, interest on the amount will grow until the debt is paid. The lien will also tied to any new property that Nas buys. Added to that, he reportedly still owes nearly $426,000 to the state of Georgia.

The Queens native may need to use earnings from his upcoming tour with Lauryn Hill and new album to pay off Uncle Sam.

Produced by Live Nation, the tour will lift off September 7 in Chicago with guests, comedian Hannibal Buress and reggae artist Chronixx, on various tour stops.

Continuing its commitment to bring fans closer to their favorite artists, TIDAL members will have access to a special pre-sale beginning on Thursday, June 1 at 10 a.m. Tickets for the tour are on sale to the general public now. Exclusive VIP packages and additional ticket information can be found at livenation.com.

Additionally, Nas recently hinted about a new album dropping by the end of the summer in an interview with the New York Times.

“Two weeks,” the Queens-born lyricist teases. “I always say I’m two weeks away from finishing.”

The interview took place as the rapper was picking beats for his upcoming project with friend an business associate John Seymour. As the two continued to sift through beats, one particular banger came through the speakers, causing both men to nod their heads.

“Oh, this is a knockout,” Nasir said.

“This is dope,” Seymour added.

“We coming out this summer, baby!” Nas yelled. “It’s going to be a hot summer up here, man!”

It has been five summer since Mr. Jones has released an album. His last project was 2012’s  Life Is Good.
