O’Shea Jackson Jr. is ready to show the world that his father is not the only person that he can portray in a film. The 26-year-old actor portrayed his father, Ice Cube in the N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton.  Jackson recently landed the role as Dock Ellis in an upcoming biopic about baseball legend’s life titled Dock.

Dock Ellis played Major League Baseball for 12 years. He spent most of those 12 years being a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ellis had a reputation for being a loudmouth. Besides Jackie Robinson, Ellis was also an advocate for African-American players of the major leagues. He fought for racial equality in Major League Baseball. Dock Ellis is most known for his appalling confession at the time of his retirement. Ellis confessed that he had pitched a no-hitter in 1970 while high on LSD.

After Dock Ellis retired in 1979, he sought treatment for his drug and alcohol addiction. After a successful rehabilitation, Ellis dedicated the rest of his life to help and counsel others who were suffering from drug addiction.  He specialized in counseling professional athletes. Ellis passed away in 2008 at the age of 63 after suffering from a liver ailment.

The biopic about Dock Ellis will be produced by David Permut, Jeff Kwatinetz, and Ice Cube from a script by Joey Poach.

“Joey Poach’s script is one of the most heartfelt, honest and emotional pieces of material I’ve read in years, and I think the complexities of the character are a perfect fit for O’Shea,” Permut said.

“Part of Cube Vision’s mission is to bring compelling, provocative and timely stories to life. With Dock, we feel that now is the right time to tell Dock Ellis’ complex, but powerful, true story and couldn’t be happier to partner with David Permut, whose incredible body of work speaks for itself.” -Jeff Kwatinetz
