Pharrell Williams enhances his first signature model for Adidas Originals with Tennis Hu Part II.
Pharrell first introduced the Tennis Hu in May 2017 as a spin on the Adidas’ NMD silhouette-wise. The shoes came in two variations, both with white Primeknit uppers. And their colors were inspired by two popular tennis models already in the Adidas’ fold, the Stan Smith and Forest Hill—both dating back to the 1970s.
With the new Tennis Hu Part II, Skateboard P continues that vintage feel by flashing forward to the next decade. Adidas calls it a “psychedelic summer model” with “color palettes reminiscent of late 80s performance footwear design.” Four total colorways brighten the original Tennis Hu’s up. The waffle-textured midsole returns in the second installment for each sneaker, with EVA technology. However, the two solid-colored variations—Pale Nude/Pink/Orange Green and Eqt Green/Grey/Black/Yellow—feature a reflective tongue tab and marbled midsole. The other two follow a more simpler midsole design yet their uppers contrast with multicolored Primeknit. And if you remember Adidas Originals Superstar 80s by Pharrell Williams, the weave of the dyed yarn uppers on this sneaker seems a tad familiar. The tongue tab is also comprised of premium suede. These colorways are Grey/Multicolor/Grey and Multicolor/White/Yellow 1.
On a more technical note, Tennis Hu’s rep an ideal summer sneaker with the breathable and flexible functionality of their fabric. They also act as a hybrid between a running shoe and tennis shoe—some modernity among its flashback theme.
