Remy Ma Discusses Her Upcoming Album ‘Seven Winters & Six Summers’

Seven winters and six summers passed before Remy Ma could get back home to her friends, fans and family after being found guilty of two assault charges back in 2008. Now a free woman, she uses her prison sentence as inspiration for her forthcoming album Seven Winters & Six Summers.

“Seven winters and six summers is how long I was gone,” she told Rap-Up.com. “I would literally sit in my cell sometimes and I would judge how long was I gone based on the trees. If the trees were bare, I would say ‘okay, I only have to see this happen to the trees three more times, and I can go home. Or if it was the summertime, I’d be like ‘yes, two more summers and I’m out of here. So I would judge it by the winters and the summers. And I was gone for seven winters and six summers.”

With Papoose sitting by her side in the interview, the New York rapper said that counting down her sentence in seasons rather than years helped her cope with time served.

“It made it go by faster if I thought of it in terms of the leaves coming off the trees..I couldn’t fathom thinking about it in terms of years,” she said “That was a big part of my life and I want to express that on my next project. I don’t think I’ve ever in depth sat down and talked about what I went through emotionally and physically. And some of the records that I want to put on there, I’m incorporating things that I wrote while I was away.”

In July 2007, Remy and an acquaintance had an argument after leaving a birthday party. Remy said that the woman stole several thousand dollars from her purse and she the woman after a fight. Remy left the scene in an SUV but crashed nearby.

Earlier this week on Sunday night (June 25) , Remy dethroned her arch nemesis Nicki Minaj for the Best Female Hip Hop Artist award at the BET Awards. Nicki had won the award for the past seven years straight.

When Remy took the stage to claim her award for the first time since 2005, she thanked her friends, family and peers. The Bronx, NY native then proceeded to recited lines from “Spaghetti”: “Y’all bitches got fat while we starved/ Shots in your ass, pads in your bras/ Y’all some liars it ain’t no facts in your songs/ And yeah that crown is coming back to the Bronx.”
