A man has been arrested and charged in the Thursday night murder of Houston rapper Mr. 3-2.
Police say Vincent Depaul Stredic, 39, removed a shotgun from the trunk of his car and gunned down 3-2 (nee Christopher Barriere, 44) at southwest Houston gas station located at 6610 West Sam Houston Parkway South. Barriere was fatally shot in the back of the head and pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say the suspect dove away then came back and shot another victim in the face.
Mr. 3-2 was a member of Houston’s Screwed Up Click. He has also collaborated on tracks with Snoop Dogg, UGK, Scarface, 8 Ball & MJG, South Park Mexican & Too $hort.
Local music writer Brandon Caldwell of the Houston Press remembers 3-2 as “One of the best off-the-dome rappers available,” Caldwell wrote, who “had plenty of wit to him, someone who famously carried himself as an every man despite being a whirlwind of a rapper.”
During his music career, 3-2 caught the attention of Suge Knight and courted to join Death Row Records. According to Caldwell, a deal was nearly sealed before 3-2 signed to J. Prince and Rap-A-Lot Records, where he recorded as a member of rap groups The Convicts, Southside Playaz and Blac Monks and released one solo album.
