TLC‘s upcoming album has been highly anticipated. A couple of years ago, the legendary girl group started an account on Kickstarter to raise money from fans to fund their last album and the R&B veterans just released the video video for the album’s first single, “Way Back” featuring Snoop Dogg.
In the California cookout themed video, TLC definitely brings summertime vibes to compliment the fresh nostalgic sound of the track as T-Boz and Chilli meet up for a house party and hit the streets to spread love as they dance in front of lowrider.
In the Lil Chris Robinson–directed video TLC sings, “Like Prince and Marvin Gaye, Like South side on Sunday/ Some things don’t ever change/ Yeah, you and me
cause we go way back/ James Brown and Michael J/ Like them high school parties, Some things don’t ever change/ Yeah, you and me/ We go way back.”
T-Boz and Chilli raised over $450-thousand through the Kickstarter campaign to record the project and described the sound of the project, saying,
“Our final album will stay true to the TLC sound, always confronting the real issues and life experiences that we all must face every single day, everywhere. We write music that people relate to…timeless music. No matter the trends, we feel like our music is always relevant. You’ll always have a guy hanging out the passenger side! And sometimes you’ll feel damn unpretty! We will continue to make music for EVERYONE, music that’s UNIVERSAL, TOUCHABLE. This final album will be the first studio album by the two of us. Of course, Lisa’s spirit will always be present in our music. That will never change.”
Next month, TLC will be celebrating the release of the new album with the I Love the ’90s: The Party Continues Tour. The tour will also feature Naughty By Nature, Montell Jordan, Biz Markie, Black Street and more. The tour will kick off on July 7 and check here for the dates.
TLC, the new self-titled album from T-Boz and Chilli, will be released on June 30. This will be the group’s first album in 15 years and the first since Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes was killed in a car accident in 2002. To purchase the album, click here.
