Tupac Becomes First Solo Hip Hop Act To Be Inducted Into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2017 has been announced and Hip-Hop’s own Tupac Shakur will be one of the inductees. The other six performers inductees are Joan Baez, Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Pearl Jam, and Yes. Chic co-founder Nile Rodgers will also receive the Award for Musical Excellence. Chic, the pioneering disco group he co-founded, was nominated for the 11th time in the performer category, but did not gain admittance.

Tupac becomes the first solo rap artist to be bestowed the honor and joins other Mt. Rushmore of Hip-Hop acts N.W.A, Run-D.M.C., Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five.

Hall of Fame CEO Joel Peresman stated,

“Rock and roll means so many things to so many different people. To have a class that has everything from Joan Baez to Tupac Shakur, from Pearl Jam to Yes, is terrific. It gives a lot of people something to hang onto.”

A special exhibit for the new members will open at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland on March 30 and the artists will be honored at the 32nd annual induction ceremony on April 7 which will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The ceremony will also air  on HBO and SiriusXM.

Salute to Makaveli The Don.
