Two of Dave Chappelle’s Netflix Specials Dropping This Month

Fans rejoiced last year after Netflix announced that it had secured a deal with Dave Chappelle that would bring three new specials back on air via the streaming giant.

The announcement arrived as Chappelle’s first-ever stint as host of Saturday Night Live concluded successfully, where he was joined by Chris Rock and A Tribe Called Quest delivering a memorable monologue on Donald Trump and the legacy of Barack Obama. He also brought back several “Chappelle’s Show” characters.

On Thursday (Mar. 2), Netflix shared an enticing 30-second teaser for the first two of Chappelle’s three specials, announcing the premiere on March 21. The trailer, which features Chappelle recounting his several meetings with OJ Simpson and the implications of Martin Luther King Jr. signing a sneaker deal, appears to be the return of true comedic genius the culture has been missing.

One of the specials, The Age of Spin, was filmed at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Palladium in March 2016, while the other, Deep in the Heart of Texas, took place in April 2015 during Austin City Limits Live at Austin’s Moody Theater. Stan Lathan directed both.

Along with Chappelle, Netflix is also debuting specials from Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, and Louis C.K. this year.

Chappelle’s last special, Dave Chappelle: For What It’s Worth, arrived in 2004.
