Wale is gearing up for the release of his fifth studio album SHiNE stopped by Ebro in the Morning to discuss his daughter and working with J Balvin.

During the interview, Wale discussed the creative process behind the album and opened up about his relationship with J. Cole. Last year, Cole and Wale exchanged words in “False Prophets” and “Groundhog Day,” confirming that any supposed animosity between the two was now settled.

“The funny thing about that whole thing is that shit brought me and J. Cole way closer,” Wale explained. “And right now, with this album, trying to bring everybody together and trying to bring my ideas to life, and the ideas that I probably wouldn’t normally put on the album, I put on the album because I wanted to this time.”

Wale also talked about his new found clarity and why he no longer focuses on what other people think.

“It’s a process, you know like it’s rare that no one cares about anything that someone else says, even the hardest person is lying when they say they don’t care,” Wale continued. “So for me it was just a process of focusing on me and what I am doing and if people like it, cool if they don’t that’s cool too but it doesn’t make or break me because ultimately I am doing what’s best for my fans.”

Wale also revealed that although SHiNE was originally slated for a May 5 release, it was moved up to this Friday. The 14-track album features appearances from Lil Wayne, Major Lazer, Wizkid, Dua Lipa, G-Eazy, J Balvin and Travis Scott In anticipation of the bump, Wale released the single “Shine Season” signaling that SHiNE season has in fact arrived.
