Tupac and Biggie aren’t the only Hip-Hop icons getting the Hollywood treatment as it was just announced that a film on the life of Luther Campbell a/k/a Uncle Luke and the 2 Live Crew is in the works.

Distributed by Lionsgate, the upcoming film The Book of Luke will be based on Uncle Luke’s biography “TheBook Of Luke: My Fight For Truth, Justice And Liberty City” and the script is being penned by Craig A. Williams. Actor RJ Cyler will play the pioneering record executive and MC.

Luther Campbell and The 2 Live Crew made history with their raunchy raps and the double platinum As Nasty As They Wanna Be. The booty shake crew won a court decision which supported their freedom of speech after record store owners and the artists themselves were arrested and fined under some states’ obscenity laws.

Luke’s Banned in the U.S.A. was also the very first release to carry the RIAA-standard Parental Advisory warning sticker.

2 Live Crew made history and today every MC rapping now should be paying homage to the groundbreaking crew.

Deadline described the film, stating, “The film will tell a story that is Straight Outta Compton meets The People Vs. Larry Flynt, the rise of a provocative hip hop group and its envelope-pushing antics that got Campbell out of his poverty-stricken origins in Miami to become a millionaire and a galvanizing symbol of free speech”

Comedian Mike Epps and Industry Entertainment will be executive producing the film.
