OJ Simpson Parole Hearing Date Set, May Be Released This Fall

Looks like O.J Simpson may be seeing the outside of prison cell soon.

According to published reports, Simpson has a parole hearing set for July 20 and the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners say he could be released as early as October 1. After nearly nine years locked away in a Nevada prison, O.J. Simpson will go up for parole next month as he turns 70.

The former football star is “hopeful” he will be released soon, according to close friend Tom Scotto.

“He’s hopeful. He’s not going to try and retry the case,” Scotto, told ABC News. “He’s done all positive things in prison for the prison and bringing everybody together.”

OJ’s sister Shirley Baker revealed that Simpson is doing well and she visits him frequently.

“It was the first time in eight years I was able to put my arms around him,” she told Inside Edition. “When he first comes out we can hug and embrace and we sit down at the table. ”

She also addressed the controversy surrounding his incarceration. They say he is Muslim, he’s not Muslim. He is Baptist,” she said.

“They say he is Muslim, he’s not Muslim. He is Baptist,” she continued. “He is in charge of the gym. He is the boss. He makes sure all of the equipment is clean.”

In 2007, Simpson was arrested for armed robbery and kidnapping and was convicted of those charges in 2008. His sentence was 33 years in prison with the opportunity for parole after nine years served.

We wish O.J the best!
