From the fictional rags-to-riches tale of movie gangster Tony Montana, to one-time cocaine kingpin “Freeway” Ricky Ross to Frank Lucas and even “Lucky” Luciano and Al Capone, hip-hop culture has long praised the bad-guy lifestyle. So it’s no surprise that Wiz Kalifah would take it upon himself to visit Medellin, Colombia, place flowers on the grave of Pablo Escobar and post it all to social media.

The only problem for Wiz is that Escobar isn’t held in such high regard in Columbia as he is within his home country. According to the BBC, Medellin Mayor Federico Gutierrez said Wiz should apologize for “advocating crime.”

“It shows that this guy has never had to suffer from the violence inflicted by these drug traffickers,” Mr Gutierrez said.

Escobar and his Medellin cartel are held responsible for about 4,000 killings, including the bombing of an airliner in which all 107 people on board were killed. Lead by Escobar, the Medellin drugs cartel was accused of being behind up to 80% of all the cocaine shipped to the US. He was Killed on a Medellin roof-top during a shoot-out as he was trying to flee from the police on December 2, 1993.

The Pittsburgh rapper posted photos at the grave and also posing in front of the apartment building where Escobar lived, upsetting many Colombians.
