Comedian Charlie Murphy Dead After Losing Battle with Leukemia

Comedian/ Comedic writer and older brother to Eddie MurphyCharlie Murphy has died.

According to TMZ, Charlie Murphy died after a long bout with leukemia Wednesday (Apr. 12) morning at a hospital in New York City. According to his manager, he had been going undergoing chemotherapy and was reportedly improving. His death comes as not only a shock to fans but also his family who he’d reportedly joke with about “calling too much.”

Charlie most famously co-starred on the Chappelle’s Show alongside Dave Chappelle in some of the show’s most quoted and memorable skits, including the recants of the nights Charlie partied with both Rick James and Prince.

The eldest Murphy also co-wrote some of Eddie Murphy’s movies, inclduing “Norbit” and “Vampire in Brooklyn”, and co-starring in cult classics “The Boondocks” and “Black Jesus” and CB4.

Most recently, Murphy toured with Cedric the Entertainer, Eddie Griffin, George Lopez and D.L. Hughley on “The Comedy Get Down.”

Charlie’s wife, Tisha Taylor Murphy, died in 2009 from cervical cancer. They had 2 children, and he had another from a previous relationship.

Charlie was 57.
