Kevin Gates to Remain in Jail on Weapons Warrant

Kevin Gates was supposed to be a free man today (March 24) on a 180-day sentence for battery after kicking a female fan in the chest during a show in Florida.

XXL reports that the Baton Rouge, La. rapper will remain in Polk County Jail until being extradited to Cook County, Ill. to face an outstanding weapons-related warrant. According to TMZ,  Mr. “I Don’t Get Tired” was re-arrested just as authorities were about to release him from jail.

According to previous reports, Gates’ rap sheet includes “several gun charges from 2013 in Illinois, including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.” A spokesman for the Cook County State Attorney’s Office said that he is due in court on those charges on Sept. 22.

He was locked up for battery after kicking a female fan named Miranda Dixon during his concert at Rumors Nightclub in Lakeland, Fla. back in 2014 after she tugged at his shorts.

“I kicked them, I wanted them off me,” he testified in an attempt to have the charges dropped using the Stand Your Ground defense, adding that after the girl grabbed him so many times, he “kicked her in self-defense.”

His wife Dreka Gates shared the video of the incident on social media.

You mean to tell me that @iamkevingates kicked the girl in the red jumpsuit and knocked the breathe out her? Because that’s what she’s been claiming and testified today in court. If anything her friend choked the fuck out of her. She claims she fainted, but yet she and her friend stayed at the club at the front of the stage even after this incident. She also acquired a civil attorney early on…what does that tell you? She also touched him FIRST (more than once) without his consent but yet he was the one sentenced to jail today for the same crime. She and her friend also had very conflicting stories and were tripped up in many lies today in the courtroom. It was comical and sad at the same time to see how desperate people are for fame and money. Not to mention the prosecutors wanted to give him 60 days with anger management and community service but yet the judge decided to give him 180 days?!? Are you fucking kidding me.
